I just watered all the plants in our house and replaced the water for the hydrangeas as well. We really enjoy the hygrangeas we got from Trader Joe’s about 12 days ago (they still look very nice!). The hydrangea blooms started to wilt on the day we got them home (as Therese fell asleep at Trader Joe’s, we decided to take a walk in a store next door so she can sleep longer). Here are what simple/easy ways I did to make them look beautiful again and last longer:
- Give hydrangeas a “shower” right after you get home!! Just put the flowers under running water for about 10-20 seconds and shake it off (the most important step!)
- Clean up the stems by removing the leaves that are below the water line (those big leaves are big water drinkers!)
- Cut the woody stem at a 45 degree angle (it increases the surface area on the bottom of the stem so that the water can travel up to the bloom easier)
- Add room temperature/warm water in the vase and put the hydrangeas in the vase
- Hydrangeas LOVE water on their heads. Give them a “shower” and replace the water every day to keep flowers fresh and enjoy them longer!

right after I replaced the water on the third day

they really love water! see how much they drunk one day
