Afternoon Tea – Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong (Black Tea)

Today, we tried Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong (also called Lapsang souchong), a type of smoked black tea (the original and authentice smoked Chinese tea). It’s a gift from my aunt that we brought from the recent China trip. The tea is from the mountainous Wuyi region in the Province of Fujian in China. It has rich aromas and flavours.

How to make Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong:

  1. Warm up the pot/cup with hot water
  2. Use about 5g. tea per 6 oz. water (190°F-200°F).
  3. (optional) Steep 5 seconds and dump the water (rinsing tea)
  4. Steep 30 seconds to 2-3 minutes (ours is premium one so it takes less time like 30 seconds for the first steeping); add more time per steeping (you can probably do 10 times depending on the tea)
  5. Enjoy the tea!

If you want to try Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong (Lapsang souchong), you can find some from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2rFYM4s

The tea set and the Gaiwan (white cup) are both gifts from friends (from Poland and China). We love them! I found some similar tea sets from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2QfOC4Z and https://amzn.to/2QickNW. There are also some Gaiwan options from Amazon: https://amzn.to/2Odetrv, https://amzn.to/2NO70jG, https://amzn.to/351iDcF

The Kyoto Veneto matcha & chocolate cookie is also gift from our friend who just came back from their honeymoon in Japan – tastes super good! I just found that you can get it from Amazon as well: https://amzn.to/2KnMX9x
